Extraction of oil from Sandalwood
Sandalwood oil is extracted through a meticulous process known as steam distillation, using the heartwood of mature sandalwood trees, typically 15 to 20 years old. The harvested heartwood, particularly from the trunk and roots, is finely ground into chips or powder. This material is then placed in a distillation chamber where steam is passed through it. The heat causes the oil-bearing cells to release their precious contents, and the steam carries the sandalwood oil into a cooling system. Here, the steam condenses, separating the oil from the water. The result is a rich, fragrant oil known for its calming, medicinal, and aromatic properties. The process is slow, but it ensures the highest quality of pure sandalwood oil, revered for its therapeutic benefits.
